CREATIVE EATS - ROCHESTER

October 16th, 2008 9:00 A.M. – 10:00 A.M. James Brown’s Place

Last month, I sent you and other AIGA Upstate members a letter encouraging you to start your own “Creative Eats – i.e. to take the third Thursday of each month to meet and eat with other like-minded individuals in your neck-of-the-woods. If you missed the email, you can read the post on the AIGA Upstate New York web site. http://upstatenewyork.aiga.org/2008/09/02/creative-eats-outline/

I’m sad to report, though, that the only such gathering that happened in September was here in Rochester.

On Thursday, October 16th, five of us gathered at James Brown’s Place on North Culver Road to talk about design books, typography and possible events that Upstate creatives would leap out of their lazy-boys to attend. We all really enjoyed the company and were very satisfied with the food. One member, David Damico http://www.ddamico.net, a recent AIGA transfer from Houston, ordered grits. He appreciated them, but has had better ….. Welcome to New York, David!

James, the owner of the restaurant, was so pleased to host the Rochester meeting of “Creative Eats that he picked up the tab for our breakfasts. We wouldn’t expect it to happen again, but we did schedule our next Rochester meeting at his place too.Just to say thanks, MYDARNDEST designed and produced 100 buttons on behalf of AIGA Upstate New York for James to use for promotion. No, he did not jump back and kiss himself, but he gave us a big bump instead.

I know you all eat….all creatives need rocket-fuel. Why not make the meal a bit more inspiring and share it with your peers in the neighborhood?  Eating together can be a great networking opportunity.  I’m looking forward to listing new “Creative Eats’ in Syracuse, Buffalo, Albany, Jamestown, Schenectady, Fredonia and all those hotspots in-between!
