At the beginning of this year (Jan '09), I was on a AIGA President's conference call, Jeff Barlow (http://www.jelvetica.com) AIGA Seattle President asked if there was a resource for reasons why people are members of AIGA. Silence. The topic moved on to our agenda business and it was never addressed.
This same topic that came up at one of our first Creative Eats in Rochester. So, I emailed Jeff with my concern that there should be some talking points. Not top down, prescribed, copy-edited, testimonials, but raw feedback from members across the country.
After a few phone calls and many ideas that would not be achievable on zero budget. We concluded that there should be a web site where people can submit their thoughts and non-members can read genuine responses. A web site!
Yes, I have been blessed with a mind that has design/web programming skills and cursed with not being able to let go of a good idea until it is realized. Using our graphic design skills, available technology (Wordpress) and programming knowledge, we made a tool to collect this type of information.
We decided to use the AIGA Leadership Retreat Party at Weiden+Kennedy to market the web site to all of the leadership to encourage participation. I can not begin to tell you how positive the response has been.
As of Monday, the site is all over Twitter, FB and the good ol' Internet. http://www.underconsideration.com/quipsologies/
