The professional association for design. New York, Upstate Chapter

Letter From the President

This newsletter was created with you in mind. We’ve just moved into our new positions, a new board of directors elected to inspire one of the most expansive chapters in AIGA. We look out over our 190 members throughout the state--including Buffalo and Syracuse where members once stood so tall. We can see their footprints in the chapter’s paperwork.

This is my first letter to readers as president of the chapter and editor of this newsletter, and my first issue. I'm proud of our new board, proud of our members for having the faith and the foresight to embrace this board as one of possibility. As the former membership chair, I am reminded of just how difficult it is to reach remote members. Some board members chose not to move forward with us; the lack of member involvement weighed heavy in their decision. But I feel differently. For a professional organization like AIGA, there is no more fitting board for the challenge: a small group of volunteers that are all about rebirth and potential and the promise of tomorrow.

I am honored to be entrusted with a chapter that has broken so much ground. I look forward to working with and for you all. AIGA Upstate New York is an organization that doesn't just advocate design; it stands for something, and we look forward to discussing these initiatives in future newsletters. I will also share my vision, values, and plan for the chapter. We will cover news found throughout the design community, at both a regional and national level. I hope this newsletter helps get your wheels turning. I'd love your feedback about this issue and AIGA Upstate New York in general. If your firm has news to crow about, I'd love to hear about that, too. You can email me at president@upstatenewyork.aiga.org. And if you find yourself in or near Buffalo, Rochester, Big Flats, Syracuse, Oswego, Utica, or Albany and want to reconnect, give us a shout. We’d be happy to host you and your ideas.
