Discover how you can produce elegant letterpress printing. Set movable metal and wood type as practiced from the fifteenth century, selecting letters one at a time by hand in a composing stick.

If holidays aren't your thing set a poem, a quotation bookmark, personal stationery, or card. Learn the origins of leading, spacing and the use of printers' measure. Set type flush left, flush right, centered and justified.

Properly tie up your form and pull a hand proof. Then you will learn about wood furniture, quoins, and reglets as you lock up your form in a chase, ready for the press.

Print your project on either the hand operated Pilot platen press or on the foot treadle operated platen press. You will learn how to lubricate the press, apply ink, adjust impression, set guides, and print your project. While your beautiful printed pieces dry, you will learn to properly wash up the press, and explore other opportunities at Dock 2 Letterpress.
