Letterpress Workshop at WNY Book Arts Center

Stuck in a digital rut? Get your hands dirty and let your primal instincts create in analog.

Using WNYBAC's 7 flat bed cylinder proofing presses (vandercooks, showcard and challenge brands) and our collection of vintage image and type blocks, participants will learn how to pull proofs from blocks and combine imagery using hand inking, intuition and team dynamics. Final work produced can show possibilities of incorporating analog image making into digital projects. Photoshop can do almost anything, but hand-printed letterpress is hard to fake. The national resurgence of letterpress has been featured in mainstream publications and printing equipment has now become quite scarce. Take advantage of the WNY Book Arts Center’s printshop collection and capabilities and see what the hype is all about. All participants will take home work they produced. (please note: this is not a substitute for WNYBAC's introduction to letterpress and is not a comprehensive training in typesetting or on the presses, but rather a very fun, very productive group exercise)

Space is limited. Minimum of 6 people necessary to hold this class. Price includes materials, $30 per person.
