JOB ALERT : Adjunct Faculty in Graphic Design

The School of Art and Design, New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University is seeking a graphic designer for an Adjunct Faculty position for the 2013-2014 academic year, to begin August 2013.

The position includes teaching sophomore, junior, and senior-level studios. The graphic design program is an integral part of the Division of Expanded Media, which includes video, sound, print media, and interactive art. Founded in 1985, the graphic design program has branched out from its roots in Swiss Design and classical typography, to pioneering curriculum within digital media and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration. The design program prepares students to become leaders in the field as creative and strategic practitioners.

The School of Art and Design is unique among institutions of higher education, as the BFA degree does not require the declaration of a major. Many of our students develop interdisciplinary research for their capstone senior thesis projects. The School of Art and Design, and the graphic design program in particular, maintains the traditions and theories which support it, while simultaneously integrating the latest technologies, cultural constructs, and best practices.

Two full-time Technical Specialists, in cooperation with faculty, maintain the computer labs. These labs are renewed regularly with the latest hardware and software providing facilities for the highest level of design education and professional practice. The Division of Expanded Media regularly invites designers and artists to the School for lectures, workshops, exhibits, and critiques. The design faculty are members of AIGA and support an active student design club.

Qualification
MFA in Graphic Design or equivalent is preferred and/or a minimum of three to five years of professional practice with demonstrated strengths in the conceptual, formal, and technical aspects of the design process. The successful candidate will be capable of teaching graphic design for both print and web media.
