Get Worked Up: Do what you love, and you’ll still feel like you are working (sometimes), Sam Fuller
Do what you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life. Right?
Following is a brief summary of the presentations from Get Worked Up conference, September 22.
Part 3.

Do what you love, and you’ll still feel like you are working (sometimes)
— Sam Fuller

Design is work. Even if we are super passionate about making stuff, it is still work.

In her presentation, Sam Fuller deconstructed the fallacy, “Do what you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life”? She made the point that sometimes, as designers and humans, we do not feel inspired or creative or even interested. This can result in feeling not creative, discouraged and emotionally exhausted. But there is hope.

What can a designer do when they are not feeling that burning creative flame? Sam has a few tricks that she shared with us. One trick:

the inspiration starter pack

Every designer needs one. The inspiration starter pack can be thought of as a creativity reset. It will help untangle crippling thoughts that undermine our creativity.

This is Sam’s Inspiration Starter Pack:

Sometimes even though we love what we are doing, design is work, and that’s perfectly fine.

Take Away: Empathy is key. Stay curious. Make an Inspiration Starter Pack.
